Roll them on the sleeve first. Take a pocket screwdriver and get underneath each one and go round and round a couple times to get out any twists or kinks. Use vegetable oil LIGHTLY on them and lightly on the block bore. May take a rubber hammer to get them to go in the last 1/2" and then bolt them down. Sleeves should have been tested first without Orings for proper fit in the block.

I use a dremel with wire brush to clean up the groves and "ramp" (and where the top flange of the sleeve fits). Dry fit the sleeve 1st. Should drop in and rotate easily. I like using Olive oil to lube the O-rings, ramp and groves. You may have to apply some force to get the O-rings over the ramp. A block of wood over the sleeve and pounding on it with a fist-or a small ball peen should to the trick.

Deere demands soap not oil for lubricating sleeve o-rings.

The Allis WC manual says use thin white lead mixture on the seal rings for the sleeves. Same in the B and C shop manual.

From page A-111 of the 7030-7080 Service Manual....A special cylinder sleeve packing ring lubricant may be purchased from your Allis-Chalmers Dealer. If this lubricant is not available, the following lubricants may be substituted: A. Castor oil   B. Liquid vegetable oil (Wesson, Liquid Crisco, etc). Use of white lead, grease or any other lubricant of heavy consistency when installing the cylinder sleeve can displace the packing rings from their grooves and cause damage to them. Use only specified lubricant.
