Can someone explain to me how to shim (tighten) H/L on a 59 D17.  First time out to pull this year , did ok in 4000 lbs class but slipped in 4500.  15.5s 120 + hp. 4mph.
And yes, I know its H/L  that slipped.

The service manual gives a very well detailed description and measurements for the process.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.
If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

Do tell what engine you have in there!

Start by obtaining LONG shims for the center location on the clutch. I'd order six .020" long shims and six .015" long shims and have them on hand. Remove short shims in LOW or HIGH range and replace them in the center location with LONG shims. Don't let anyone tell you different.

DR. Allis is correct. You need to maintain .205 total shim any way you put it. Access it through the plate by the shifter. Rotate it and loosen it up. Remove from the high, low or both and put the same thickness worth of shims in the neutral set. Neutral shims are long, hi and low are short. They do not interchange. Agco carries them.
