I have found some thin rod's in my stash, and they are E308-16 and HarrisWelco 315, they are very small dia, I have been welding rust holes/cracks in rusted mower decks with good success. I have an old Lincoln AC, running at 40 amps. When I grind the bead it appears bright like SS or Nickel?? Any thoughts? Thanks.

The 308-16 appears to be a chromium, nickel rod used for welding stainless.

The 308 is a stainless steel rod used to weld 308 (and sometimes 304) stainless. The 315 rod is also a stainless rod that can be used to weld 315 and/or 321 grades of stainless. Neither rod was marketed for welding stainless to steel.

308 is a stainless to stainless weld 309 would be a stainless to carbon steel weld
