A couple of progress pictures of my AC 720 restoration. I have added a Vega power steering. Hoping it works as expected. I'm currently installing all the wiring that I got from Steve at B&B Custom Circuits. Man, there is a lot of wires to hook up. Hope to have the tractor with the Ark 700 loader done for the summer shows.

That is very nice, looking like new.

Can you give more detail on the power steering?
I have heard that the manual box for the 720 was from the Vega. Does that mean the power assist box is the Vega optional power assist box?
The hydraulics to run it, will that be from the main pump?

What are those rear tires (make, size)?
Keeping the original engine?

Brian, John and others,
The power steering box was a new unit purchased from CPP and I bought it with the optional cast pitman arm. Here is an EBAY link;

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevy-Ford-Street-Hot-Rod-Vega-Power-Steering-Gear-Box-400-Series-/380637876659?hash=item589fc911b3" rel="nofollow - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevy-Ford-Street-Hot-Rod-Vega-Power-Steering-Gear-Box-400-Series-/380637876659?hash=item589fc911b3

This box will bolt up to the existing mount holes exactly however you must cut the mount plate out and move it back about 1/2"-5/8" and tilt the top slightly forward and up about an 1/8" so that it doesn't project thru the bottom floor panel. You will also need to make a couple of other minor modifications.
The original steering universal joint will need to be replaced with (2) smaller ones cut to fit and welded together. The length of the new u-joint will be about 1 1/2" shorter than original u-joint.
The hole through side frame will have to be moved back to accommodate new location of the pitman arm.
No changes to the steering shaft are required.
The following pictures will show how the CPP unit fits when bolted up after modifications.

On the hydraulics, I removed the original pipe from the charge pump and ran a new hyd. hose from the charge pump to the input port of the ps box and another new hyd. hose from the out port of the ps box to the main control valve in port.
A side note though-I do not have the engine in yet to test this all out, but have been told by reliable folks that this will work.

Rear tires are Good Year Terra Tires with Super Terra Grip 31 x 15.5 - 15.
Engine is original.

The other Persion Orange #1 project you see in the earlier picture is my little hot rod with a Flathead V8 but that's another story.

Feel free to contact me for further information on my projects and thank you all for your interest,
Mike

The engine is a 1949 Ford flathead V8 (100hp) converted to 12 volt. It drives a 1983 Case 226 garden tractor hydraulic drive and has a power steering unit from a Yanmar compact tractor.

Mike,
You custom guys just drive me crazy with your excellent work! My brain just cant do that type of detailing! I can barely get them scrubbed up as original. Maybe I just don't have the smarts to begin with!:) That custom hot rod B needs to be a thread by itself! Just awesome! Thanks for posting! Looking forward to more of the 720 and the B too.
Regards,
 Chris

More progress pictures. Power steering works. Electric fuel pump added.
Have a few final minor issues to work out, then decals to be added and then get the Ark 700 loader mounted and then she will be ready for the summer shows.
I hope you all like it.

You know, I just got to thinking. We have a early '41 C that we are planning to restore, yet after looking at yours there may be a change in plans. A little custom work may be in order after the '65 Rivera is done. (Getting close)

More 720 progress pictures.
It is all done except for decal on back of seat which is on order and the Ark 700 loader which I will hopefully get installed next week. Hope to have it all done for the Indiana GOTO. I will post more pictures then.
Thanks for looking,

My machine has the 12.5L-15 Firestone Power Implement 8 ply. http://www.millertire.com/products/dune-buggy-tires/12-5l-15/12-5l-15-firestone-power-implement-8-ply/" rel="nofollow -
Miller SKU 340561. I may have narrower rims than this machine.

How well does the power steering work, is it fast enough, good feel, quiet?
Does the machine slow down when turning?  I realize you haven't tested with loader yet. Seems like a smart move using the Vega PS box, adapting a full hydrostatic steering system would have been more work.

You got skills, what is your day job?

Brian, The power steering is very fast, less than 2 turns lock to lock. Feels great and no noise at all.  I haven't lifted anything yet with the 3pt. but it doesn't seem to slow down at all when the power steering is used. I also don't think the tractor slows down when using the power steering.

Dave, the crossbar that goes across the opening is factory.  Sometimes they break off and get thrown away.  I made a plate that goes behind it with 2 holes in it to bolt on the fuel pump.
