I have a D-15 Series I industrial tractor with a front bucket and backhoe. I just went to change the Hydraulic oil and filter and it seems like a previous owner may have removed/eliminated the filter and filter mount from the tractor. This has the hyd pump mounted in front of the grill. Any one have a picture of, or know where the hyd filter is supposed to be located? Any replacement/aftermarket part numbers for an appropriate filter mount would be appreciated. Thanks.

Maybe it was something like this (at least originally)?

But perhaps I just need to add something like this?

Actually, I don't know if a series 1 had a filter.  might just be a screen, on the intake end of suction line.  I think on farm tractors, series 2 d-15's it's a fram PH8A, below the battery box...

It looks to me like the original oil resivor was in the loader frame and likely started to leak due to a crack. A new oil tank has been added so things are not as they left the factory.
You can add a filter. Looks like the loader that I had on an I-60 which was a later model.

Yes, you are correct, I see where the original reservoir was in the frame. I will just put a filter in the supply line leading to the grill mounted hydraulic pump. Thanks.

I was reading this page: http://dta.eu/hydraulics/hydraulic-filters/
Now I am not sure if the filter should go between the tank and the pump or on the return line before the tank.

I believe filters go on the return, and suction screens go on the suction line. At least on ag tractors...

Thanks. I will check if I have any kind of screen currently on my suction line and add the filter to the return line.
