I'm finally getting around to posting the picture and some of the why! I have submitted the full story to OAN so this is a short version. It was a once in a lifetime chance to be able to bring home tractor that my grandfather owned and I was fortunate enough to live it. I thought I was taking a chance by driving my 04 Ford diesel with a 6.0l engine to pick it up, as another guy at the auction said, "I don't drive it any farther than I can afford to have it towed." When my grandfather bought the tractor he and my uncle picked it up in a 47 Ford truck that had no floor on the truckbed due to a life of hauling logs. My uncle put two boards on the bed to haul it home some 200 miles. I still have some thank you's to write, one is to Lawrence Herrs, the man who did the restoration in 1999, had a long and great conversation with him after the sale. I have managed to start it by hand, dont' know why, I haven't broken the tow strap yet!

| Yes, it was the Alan Jones tractor, the picture that was on the tractor is hanging in my office with other tractor pictures and calendar. Owner says you'd think we work on tractors instead of refrigeration from the looks of things! |

Great Job.
Never sold an A. Just too big for the Maryland estates and small farms. However, once I saw Butch's A and others at the GOTO's I have Takin A Liking to them.

Cool "A" and a great story. Glad your 6.0 Ford diesel made it home. We have never met other than on Hwy. 36 the day that you were taking the "A" home. We driving a Cummins, but you passed a low mile 6.0 Ford from my work. It was at the giant salvage yard just north of Hwy. 36. That truck was the best looking, lowest mile, highest priced vehicle that I ever sent to scrap. We parked it next to a lower mile and one year newer twin to it the day that we dropped it off. The guy at the yard basically said that 6.0 trucks show up almost daily from guys who are just sick of it.-----The money spent on your "A" is going to seem like one of the best investments that you ever made! |
