| Morning. I'm new to Allis Chalmers. Looking for my first garden tractor. I really like the 620, 720 styles. Anything I need to look for, stay away from? If anyone has something for sale . let me know. Thanks. |

| Garden tractor OR lawn tractor????----Garden tractor would be the 900 series, I use a re-powered 917-H to garden with but lawn unit is a 516 -H and wont do gardens . thanks; ac fleet |

620/720 will do lawns or gardens. Mower deck cuts 60" and does an extremely even job. I just bought a very old and worn 48" rototiller for rear last fall, and it does a fantastic job with the garden. Attachments are quite expensive, but very heavily built. This is a very large frame tractor, and may be too large for some small areas. Doesn't take long to cut a lawn when you mow 60" at a time. Generating systems are very touchy on these. (mine included-doesn't work) A lot of owners have put a small alternator on to cure this problem. The toggle/safety switches are getting old, and stay open and can cause a failure to start sometimes. Relays are sometimes added into the ignition system to work around these. I had done this, until that quit working also. I then added a separate wire from ignition switch to starter with fuse inline to eliminate this problem. (probably not a good fix if you have young children around who can use the key in the ignition to start tractor) I don't have any little ones around. My Onan seems to generate a lot of power, but repair parts are extremely expensive. You may see some owners re-engine with Honda, Kohler, B&S if their Onan is really gone. Cummins now owns Onan. I believe Small Engine Warehouse sells kits for this. These series tractors have a 3 speed manual transmission, with a Sunstrand hydrostatic transmission, giving a tremendous variance of speed and power. You can crawl along, yet have tremendous power at your hand. Guess you can tell I really like mine, even tho I don't have a working charging system.

b212's were made in the 70's and are great I have one, but I also have an old 6 something hydro with a mower deck that I plan on fixing one day ------------- B212, WD45, B, 912 Hydro |
