alright i made this homemade concoction for this stuck 430 JD the cylinder walls look ok just a few places that i can see looking through the spark plug hole but i cant see down near the piston where its probly the worst its been stuck since the late 70s 80s. alright could i maybe hook a pto from another tractor to this tractors pto and kinda nudge it a little and maybe it breaks loose . has anyone ever done this iv heard it before but can it work

I my opinion using another tractor PTO would very possibly break rings, piston ring grooves, or worse bend a rod. With enough power you certainly can make it turn, but....

Why not just chain it up and drag it it gear. Bend a rod maybe. It will either work or it won't. Probably still have to tear it down.

a friend did the PTO thing, but had a coupler welded to a log pipe and rocked it back and forth by hand. says it works well!

Its easy to bend a rod trying to force an engine over by turning the crankshaft some way. Trouble is the rod will bend sideways and put a bind on the piston and the crankshaft journal. and then the added load on the rod will break it and the remains will often create a new crankcase inspection port, a hole in the block or the pan. Its far better to take the engine apart and pull the pistons out or push direction on the pistons in the sleeves.

I have broke a couple loose by soaking with MMO for a week jack one rear tire put in gear and gently rotate the tire that's off the ground. Using a pto from another tractor is a sure thing you will break something. And it won't be pretty.even after breaking one loose rocking the tire I still pulled the head and brass wheeled the cvlinder. I don't Kwon about a JD but every allis I've seen stuck had stuck valves too.

If you really feel it not stuck bad. Take the valve cover off make sure the valves move. hopefully you have the cylinder soaking with something, I use 50 to 50 ATF/Acetone mix. Then take the starter out and see how hard it is turn on the Flywheel with a pry bar. If it moves some then work back and forth. If does not work pull the head. See how bad the cylinder look Takes only 1hr to pull the head on John Deere 430. how much water did you drain from the oil pan?
I would not recommend pulling it behind another tractor and pop the clutch.

Best to take your time and pull it apart. Forcing it to move by a mechanical means results in just having to spend more money. Take the engine right out of the tractor and try to rig it up in a way so you can fill each (or both in some way) cylinder with 50/50 acetone/ATF. Let it soak for a month or 2. Things will come apart easier. Clean everything up, do a major rebuild and you should be good after that.

Put the penetrant in the cylinders every day. It works best to put enough in to get past the ring gaps, so every space between the rings gets wet. You may have to loosen the valve adjusters and close the valves to fill those cylinders, since they are horizontal. Put it in high gear and rock the tractor back and forth or as someone else said jack up on side and rock that wheel. Do this once a day. Refill the cylinders daily. Be patient. It should work loose after 4 or 5 days. Don't pull it or hook to another PTO. You'll do more harm than good.

One trick I seen someone do. Was use lamp oil and wick. When I saw it them head of qn Allis B. But he said he didn't threw the plug hole. He had 1/4 to 1/2 inch on top of the piston and let it burn. Theory made since.

A method I used recently was to take the head off. After soaking with 50/50 mix for a while. Rock the tractor in gear gently back and forth. No luck. So I put brake fluid in each cylinder & light it. Let it burn till the block gets warm as if it had been running for a while. Wasn't a violent fire at all. Nice slow steady. Easy to put out by rocking the tractor. Worked great for that one. Ray W.

430 should have the vertical 2 cylinder engine like my 420 has!---the spark plugs are right above the dist. thanks; ac fleet

Yep, I was thinking next series up. Cylinders don't need to be full.

X2….. Take your time. You may save the pistons, etc and avoid serious problems.

50/50 acetone at mix. Pull the rockers off closing valves. Use adapter for checking compression and put about 150psi of air to each cylinder. You hear the 50/50 mix going past rings. It will either turn loose or it will just make it easier to disassemble. Done this trick successfully several times in an engine that looked like slightly rusty inside with borescope. Some engines can't have our redneck ingenuity and are just too rusted stuck.

I heard once of tapping a grease zerk into a spark plug and pushing grease into the cylinder. If a person pulled the pan and found all the Pistons on the way down it would be easier on things. But a TDC or BDC would bend a rod for sure. Person would still have to take the head off to clean the grease out. Air pressure would probably be more gentle. On a old Deere you only have one piston at a time to push though.

Pull it apart if everything looks good a gasket set and a quick hone is all it'll cost you , but I would also check the head they are notorious valve burners. Neighbor had one in a combine I've got one in an MT. T.J.
