I am going to straight pipe my D 15 II with a double wall that turns 90 degrees at the top. This is not a working tractor and will only be on one tractor ride a year and maybe push a little show.
Anyhow I cannot get a grip on what size outlet would look appropriate. The most readily available one I see is 3 inch, but i think it would look scrawny.
What size do you folks that have eyeballed them installed looked appropriate?

Since you're the one that'll have to look at it and ride it once a year, you should spend some time and mockup a few 'mufflers' from say 1 1/2, 3" and 4" ABS pipe and a few adapters. Dry fit, then when 'happy', spray with silver rattle can. Walk around it, take a few pictures....go back into house..put pix on PC and look again.

My guess is a 3" would look pretty beefy on a D15. I think my 190 came from the factory with a 3" pipe.

My thoughts exactly. Any thing bigger than 3" would be alright on a 190, but on a little D15? 3" would be more than enough I think. With no muffling ability, that straight pipe is really going to make that tractor snort on a ride or parade!

thanks for the input guys, I am going with a 3 inch.
I don't know about the sound on the double walls. I just been slipping a pipe on the manifold for the initial run up and test ride. It was well within the bearable range for me, not pulling of course.

The guy at the back of the line will probably be looking for earmuffs by the end of the ride. Why not just put the correct muffler on it so everyone can enjoy a nice ride through the without having their ears ringing after a couple hour ride?

I guess you're not concerned with efficiency or power, but no back pressure (free flow) will decrease the engine efficiency. At least it did on my B.
