We have a Agco Allis 6690 that we bought new. It has only 500 hours on it because it is only used for light work like mowing. The last week it started to cut out when it reached mid throttle. All fuel filters were replaced about 50 hours ago. Our fuel quality is great. The first fuel filter prior to the fuel pump is a typical clear fuel bowl with a small filter inside. At mid throttle the fuel bowl is only about 1/2 to 3/4 full. Shouldn't it be all the way full?? Is this normal?? Maybe a restriction between tank and first filter/bowl?? What else could cause the surging and cutting out?? Thanks everyone in advance, Ryan

I don't know anything about that model tractor in particular, but I'd agree with you that the fuel bowl should be full. Darrel

Check the banjo fittings. Bugs and debrie clog them and restrict fuel flow. TobeMo.

I would say it is sucking air somewhere between the first filter/bowl and the tank. Maybe the line, fitting or primary pump. You might could plug one end and force some air pressure on the other with the fuel in the line and see if you can see it leak....Just a guess.

Been there with a 5660 many times. Same symptoms. The bowl will be full when there are no places for air to leak into it. I finally just took mine off as the vibration of the tractor running would cause the bolt holding the lines in and out as well as supporting the bowl would get ever so loose and it would suck just a bit of air but run almost good enough to make you think nothing was wrong. Have not had a problem since doing this. Sometimes the bowl gasket would be loose and sometimes the fitting bolt. I am sure your tractor is the same set up. If the pump was bad I would find that strange as I have the original pump on mine with over 4800 hrs.

I agree with your first thought about a restriction in the tank. I had the very same symptom with a combine last fall. I tried everything and all I could tell is that it appeared to be getting air. Well, the last thing I tried was the orifice from the fuel tank and sure enough a piece of corn stalk was lodged in the orifice. It was working so hard to try to get more fuel it was pulling air. Have had no problems since.

Thanks for all the advice!! I dont have to work tomorrow, so after mowing grass I will look at it again. I still think it might be in the tank or line before the first filter. Thanks, Ryan

I found a somewhat loose banjo fitting that was the reason it was sucking air!! Thanks for all the help. Ryan
