| I'd like that Oliver 102 Plowmaster, if it were about $400 cheaper!! It has the wrong wheels on it. They aren't "rare", per se. They are real good plows though and they don't wear out. |

| How much power would it take to pull that plow in good loan sand mix soil not clay? We could pull a 4 bottom allis chalmers plow with the d17 easy here. I ask because there was one of those over plows around here last year for sale I thin it was 6 bottoms and I thought it should be able to be pulled with my 100 hp case 5240 but I really don't know much about plows. I need to plow my hay fields at some point and reseed and I really want to do it without using roundup to kill everything. The only time we reseeded any hay fields in my memory we sprayed them waited a month and once the grass was dead used the disc to break it all up roundup killed the full sod blew my mind but I am trying to go organic on my hay. |

Not sure which plow you're talking about. The big 6 bottom Oliver? I'm talking about the 2 bottom trip plow. My B pulls it fine in our gumbo/clay soil.

I was always told there is a big difference in plows and that if you don't know how to set it up you end up with an ocean. Of cause I know nothing about them as I have never used them. I can tell you my neighbor would be the wrong person to ask his fields are wicked ruff. Think he plowed them at 30 mph by the looks of them.... |

| I don't know much about setting up bigger plows than a 3 point hitch mount. I've never used a semi-mount. I do know, however, that a lot of people say Oliver made the best moldboard plows of anybody. |

| Dan73, if you pull 4 plows there with a D17, you would be able to pull a 6 bottom oliver with your CaseIH. The Oliver plows pull easier than any other plow that I have ever pulled. Everyone I know that has pulled them has said that. One big reason is all their plows are closer to the tractor than any others I have pulled. Seems like the ones with the first bottom way back 6 or 7 feet pull like a sled. A D17 here has all it wants with 3 plows, sometimes almost more than it wants. We have a LOT of clay here. There may be 15 different soil types here in a hundred acre field. Some types of clay here will set a 180 horse tractor on fire with 6 plows. And it all depends on how deep you intend to pull them too. Only time I ever hook to one anymore is for a tobacco patch, and not often then. But people say I plow too deep. I like to plow 16 to 18 inches deep for tobacco. Oliver plows are the only ones I can get to run that deep and still turn the ground over. If you want to just half turn it and leave it standing, pull a Deere plow. LOL! |

I remember the first time I used my Oliver 2 bottom trailer plow I had no idea how to set it and the first bottom buried way down and the 2nd one barely scratched the surface! What an embarrassing day!!!

Yes he is. I have talked to him, probably 3 months ago. He is a certified BS' er. I am pretty sure he has papers. LOL. He thinks everything he has is a highly sought after treasure. And has priced accordingly. |
