I replaced the gas gage cork on my D17 with a carb float from Oreillys #CF259, works great.

Where do you get the Float?

At O'Reilly Auto. It is a Walker Carburetor Float 100-21 CF259. It's not original but it works and no one sees it.

My fuel man has floats for the oil tanks for home heating and he gave me a float off of one of them for my D17. Works fine. Jim

I've replaced a couple gas gauge floats with corks from the hardware store. To preserve the corks I've coated them with SealAll. Its impervious to ethanol and gasoline.

Mike - I got corks and the SealAll and had planned to go that route to fix my D17 gauge as Gerald mentions but I'm open to other options What is that carb float made out of? How much was it? Mike

I had a gas tank for an early '90s Suburban sitting in my junk-pile, pulled the fuel pump/float assembly and found a modern-fuel-tolerant styrene float that slipped right on, and works great... for free...

I guess it is styrene, it was $10.00.
