I have two questions regarding power directors. My D17 is now releasing on the low side, it will stop if you stand on the brakes but it always wants to creep. Is there an easy fix for this or do I have to tear into it? My friend has a D19 that will pop out of high. What does this take to fix? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Your D17 may have too thick of oil in it. If the oil is too thick the discs will stick together. Drain it and put in some universal hyd oil or some thin motor oil. It may still creep a little until the oil warms up. On the D19 I would check the set screw in the bottom of the handle. If it is a little loose it not stay engaged. There is another setscrew inside the housing on the cross shaft that could also be loose. If this doesn't fix it then it may need the little rollers replaced and the ramps welded up ground down.

They will creep without a load on the tractor. They are oil bath, and if the oil is cold it will creep. as the oil warms up it will work better. Bob

My new to me D-17 did the same thing. I drained the sump and put in automatic transmision fluid and it stopped creeping. I think they all need a good cleaning once in a while. The ATF is a good cleaner. I will run it for a while then put back in some universal hydraulic fluid. Dave.
