Finally dug into my D17D engine. It always leaked pretty bad from the rear seal area. There is a "supporting rib" on the rear of the pan that is loose in the middle but firmly attached at each end. I'm thinking I ought to at least tack it in place. Anybody know for sure?

Certainly the reinforcement helps provide more clamping presure on the entire seal. I recently sold my spare but pretty certain that end was soldered....front of the pan was brazed.
