Buying a 1947 B Allis Chalmers today and was wondering if there were any advantages to brush hog or belly mower besides able to get in corners.

Bush Hogs are tall grass and small sapling cutters. Belly mowers are normally finish type mowers for lawns.

Woods has both a finish belly mowers with the three blades and belly rotary cutters which has the one center blade that has the heavy blades that kick back when hitting stones or to large of a sapling.

I have both. I have the Woods finish mower under a B that I mow yards with and have fo 10 years. I have one Woods rotary mower that should be under a different B and I also have a Woods rotary that should be under a G. I have been using the finish mower to trim pastures as well as the yard. I should get one of the others mounted and use to trim pastures.

If it were me I would go for the belly mower that fits your application. If your yard is real level the rotary cutters will do a fair job if you keep the blades sharp.

I have a B that I use a rear mount Woods RM-59 mower. I mow my yard with it and also any rougher areas that are not too stalky or thick. That leaves the belly portion free to use a drag blade that I keep mounted for dirt moving. I like the center positioned PTO for the mower. The B will operate this mower in 2nnd or 1st gear depending upon thickness. I am very happy with it as a multi-purpose mower.

belly mowers cause less fatigue as you are not tuning around to look every so often
