My engine block does not have any serial number stampings. I spoke to Tony Carbaugh, and he said it must be a replacement block. Has anyone see this before? Does this logo look familiar. Can anyone give me info on replacement blocks, where they came form etc... There is a number cast into the block on the distributor side: AM 3853-21. Front timing cover has U 3053-26, and the head has a AM4559. Here are pictures of where the engine serial number should be. Your thoughts? What do I have / not have? Thanks Jeff

Jeff - can't comment on the missing SN but I just noticed you are in Franklin, TN.  My sister-in-law/brother-in-law live in Franklin.  Next time we come down to visit I'll have to look you up.   Mike

I would bet the dealer had to order a replacement from West Allis. I believe some people have mentioned not having a tractor number on the differential housing and figured these had been replaced.

I bought a 45 a few years ago and the block didn't have a serial number and was a yellow color, I thought it to be a replacement. Along time ago (maybe 40 years) my uncle bought a D-17 with a cracked block and it came with a new block and it was also yellow without a serial number. I think my uncle only paid a few hundred dollars for the whole shooting match. still runs great.

As a completed engine assembly, the block got stamped with a specific serial number. Replacement block?...no serial number needed or stamped.
