| I agree that is a screwy design but the belts easily outlast antifreeze. Antifreeze is one of the easiest things to neglect on a tractor or car. |

Yes the old wide belts last a long time. Mine is I don't know how old, I have no idea if either of my Grandpa's ever replaced it, (one Grandpa bought the WD new, the other bought it when he retired from farming). The tractor also sat for about sixteen years from the last time Grandpa climbed off it until I got it going again after retiring from the Navy. Somewhere in that time, some lowlife stole the generator and dash panel, so I did a 12 volt conversion with a Nippon-Denso alternator from a Datsun pickup. The wide belt has ran fine for the past several years over the rather narrow v-groove pulley. The way my luck runs, now that I bragged on it, it will break the next time I start it to plow snow.
