the amp meter on my wf moves left to right rapidly when the tractor is running, what causes this ? it is a 6 volt, with generator and positive ground, and has recent new wiring. I am not sure it really charges, starts some times, then not other times, has i think clean ground, and new heavy heavy cables. Js

It sounds like your armature is out of round and the brushes are bouncing. It is probably charging some, if you don't want to get the gen. checked out try putting a voltmeter on the battery to see what the voltage is at startup then after you have run it a while. Cal in Ct.

Just had a customer recently that had the same kinda problem. Drove him crazy for a while. He had the Gennie checked out locally and his rebuilder couldn't find anything wrong with the unit. I told him to change the Ammeter out just for the heck of it from one of his other Tractors and see if the same problem exists. Turned out to be the problem. New Ammeter, and he was back in business. Goofy things happen sometimes.... lol! Steve@B&B
