Believe it or not, plow day was NOT the highlight of my weekend at the farm...I've posted a couple of times on how I sold my late father's D17 Series III back in 1998 to a friend of my farming partner and how I regretted that. The good thing was that he fixed up that D17 and it had a home. Several years ago I caught up with that person (Joe Vanderfeltz - GREAT guy) and he agreed if he ever sold it I'd get first chance to buy it back. Well that day came MUCH sooner than I expected and was last Friday evening. Joe decided he had a few too many AC toys and that D17 was the one to go. I wasted no time in closing the deal before he changed his mind and drove it home about 7 or 8 miles from his farm to my farm. It's a 1963 D17 Series III SN70202. Dad bought it new but I think it had been on the lot a year. It was a NF front originally to mount a corn picker but Joe converted it over to a WF using a Series I or II rollshift from a diesel tractor I'm guessing from the mounts...but it works. Joe put a Z-code rebuilt Gleaner engine in it, new clutch...home-made front grill (yes it looks like a Series I?) and a paint job among fixing other things. This was the tractor I first learned to drive when I was 6 (going on 7). I am SOOOO happy to have it back home on the farm. I know Dad is smiling too. Now each of my 2 sons has a D17 and I have the 180. We can have our own plow day in a few years and get lots of work done even if nobody else show up. I have plows for all 3 too already. Thanks JOE!!!!!! Since I have another D17 for a "utility" tractor, my WD45 NF with PS I bought last fall is getting a new purpose ...dedicated corn picker tractor...which brings me to another toy I bought in March (but have not hauled home yet), a mounted AC 190 corn picker that is northern Missouri. I got it from my newest AC buddy, Daniel Starbuck. It has all the mounting hardware for a WD45/D17 and is in great shape. I'm really looking forward to getting it hauled home and getting it on my 45...once I get the 45 fixed up and running right too! Dad ran a 170 picker then later a 190 picker on the Series III as it was a NF when he had it. It was something I never got to do as a kid...well I will now. Orange fever at it very best (or worst?) LOL...like I needed more projects...but I can't help myself! | hello Mike,that is great news .It looks like a nice tractor .Good looking kids too, man i bet there going to be happy one day when they can do some plowing with you .thanks again with the info on my d17iv .I got the 3 point working now ,it was hung up ,but we both were standing on the arms and it popped.The previous owner must not have moved it in a long time.I got the missing linkage from heitmanns ,Wi..Have fun with your boys now |

That is nice to get her back in the family. You will cherish it even more now. I bet the boys were excited. I am thankful I have my dads 45. You saw that it needs some tlc. Someday it will have a plow back on it. The plow pictures were sure nice. Looked like a beautiful day. It brought back a lot of memories. Thanks for sharing. Daniel |

Mike, Like I said on plow day you have it going your way now. Now I am so going to look for one of my Dad's tractors, But it is not going to be like you, I don't have the farm I played on as a kid. This is a good day for you Cindy and the kids.

| Terrific news Mike. Bet you haven't stopped smiling since then. Only tractor my Dad ever had was a wore out Cub Cadet & hit dead ends on both my Grandfather's tractors. My pockets weren't deep enough to buy the first tractor I ever drove recently but at least I know where it is, so I can really appreciate your happiness. Now about needing a WD-45 chore tractor complete with front steps for easy mounting as you get older...Harvey |

Congrats Mike! Glad you got her back home! I have a soft spot for the series IIIs as well. This one was bought new by my Grandfather. It too is a 1963. It was delivered January 10th 1964, exactly 15 years to the day before I was born! We even have some home movies of it the day it was delivered. This one is serial number 67838. Jim  |

| Mike: I'm happy for you to get your dad's tractor back. I also have a D17III but mine is a diesel. I have had this tractor on my farm since 1980 and use it to pull the square baler. The later D17s are some of the better tractors AC ever made , in my opinion. Ron |
