Subject: WD pulling gears

Building a WD with a gleaner engine in it was wondering if someone had rear gears that would slow it down. I am looking to pull it in the 4500 and 5500lb classes at 3 1/2 mph. I'm running 15 5's rubber on 38" rims. Was told wd45 diesel rear gears might help me achieve what I'm looking for. Any help would be appreciated.

They won't fit a WD rear end.
The WD rear end is a bastard child.

a 45 rear end is different

And I hope you have enough motor to turn the 15's at those weight classes. In my area, the clay tracks take a lot of power.

Shorter tires are needed if you can't build the HP for the tall skins.

Would it be easier to turn 13.6X38 instead?
how do the farmall h's turn the 38's?

Thanks for all the suggestion. Here where I pull at for one I'm the only AC tractor out there trying to make things work for me. Everyone pulling John deere and Farmall are using 15 5 on 38's and they are winning. Guys with smaller tires don't do so well.

I'll tell you this, down here in ga I pull against a lot of john deeres and farmall a with tall tires and my little 28s beat them every time. Just figure out what works best for your tractor on the ground it's pulling in and go for it! Best of luck to you, Ill be trying my first pull with diesel gears this weekend. I'll tell you how that goes after I have some experience haha!

Ive never weighed one personally but have always been told a diesel rear weighs more. In you situation that may not matter. I know also from my experience here in TN when you get to those heavier classes you start pulling against a lot bigger tractors and in this clay dirt the WC,WD,WD45's shine from 3250-4000 with 15.5 38's. That being said my neighbor has the strongest gleaner E engine I know of and most expensive at $ 12k in just the engine and he can't  place in those heavy classes. Not tying to discourage or say it isn't possible this is just my experience. My 45 weighs 3500 with me on it and I run 14.9 28's and she's stout..Its hard to beat in 4000 lb. and with a new clutch and hand clutch removed it slips the clutch in 5500lb. I was trying to find the back side of the engine and never did. Again just offering my experience. ~MATT~

Can it be done yes but it takes work and $ I have a wd45 that I pull in 4000-5500 most places and it runs top of the class most times my main competition is a 112 hp U Minneapolis that I hang and can beat with as long as I don't have a sloppy set up but mines no stock tractor so it can be done but it will take more than a stock E gleaner motor mine is 312 cid and has high compression and I still have the stock rear end I didn't put slower gears in the rear and have no problem with power and my 38s and I pull mainly 3mph

I also don't have the money in mine like that one guy has in his I have maybe 10k in my entire tractor and 2800 of that was to fix bad machining

What is the no load ground speed of a wd45 with stock gas gears, "1st gear 2000 rpm with 15.5 Firestone 151 50% tread on 14" wide rims?  
Then again with the diesel gears?

with 14.9x28 you get 3.6 mph at around 2000 rpm

with 15.5x38 you get around 4.2 mph

Thanks Charlie for the info on the diesel gearing speed. Not having any luck here in PA locating a complete diesel rear. Any idea where I could find one?

I read a article about removing the hand clutch and indtalling a wc trandmision in its place sounded like a neat set up

find a d-17 series one or two. same pinion and crown as wd-45 diesel and same speed with same size tires
