I bought an 8070 FWA recently with the engine in pieces. The engine is going to get a complete rebuild, including a new cam shaft, which brings up the first question; Do new lifters need to be installed since the camshaft is new? Secondly, the previous owner very carelessly threw the push rods around and so I only got half of them, and the half that I did get are all rusty. Seeing how new ones are very spendy, would it be wise to shine up the one's I got and find used ones for the rest of them, or would finding a whole set of used ones work the best? Or is it not wise to put used ones in. If used ones would be acceptable, does anyone have a set they would be willing to sell? Or is there aftermarket ones the a person can get at a reasonable price?  Any help is greatly appreciated, and if any one has any  other does or don't regarding this rebuild, please share them with me.  Thank you.    Darrel

Have the lifters resurfaced (most machine shops can do this) and they will work fine or replace them.  Also FYI most camshafts can be resurfaced to original specs too, sometimes more economical than buying new ones.

Rusty pushrods are fine too as long as the rust cannot come loose, clean them off with a wire wheel if you are worried about it.

Thanks for info. I'll take a serious look at resurfacing the lifters. The cam is beyond fixing, though, as it is in adout 3 or 4 pieces. The pushrods, I guess aren't as expensive as I thought. Might go either way on them. (Used, if I can find them, or new if I have to)
