Hello. I posted this same question on the Construction equipment section and they recommended that I come over to the farm equipment section. My question is does anyone what size this engine is, and any ideas where I might be able to get a manifold for it. It belongs to a guy I know. He uses it to operate his sawmill. It has a 4-17 cast into the block and also has the number AM2821-1 on a tag on the clutch housing. Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

IT's IS A U-40 PU 318 engine. Call me 717-451-6590

| How about a picture of the bad spot on your manifold.Why do you need another .If the air tube is burnt out you can replace the tube. |

| Wow! Nice job. I'll have to go back up to the sawmill to get a picture of the bad one. I haven't looked at it all that well. Maybe it can be fixed. |

Don Jr, Thanks. Looks like I found the place for the answers I'm looking for. I'm located between Syracuse and Watertown in a town called Sandy Creek. It's a little north of Pulaski (AKA The snow belt off the eastern shore of lake Ontario.) |

| Wouldn't the cold air manifold that was used on LP be better for him than the one ment for kerosene? That is assuming he is going to run gasoline. |

| We have only run Gasoline in it. I didn't know we could run kerosene in it, but have heard mention of this a couple of times now. |

Wow - its great to see another one of these units. I use one to run a big John Deere feed mill - always a rush to fire that old engine up.
Not long ago I was also in search of some technical data on my unit. I figured out that it looked like the same engine on the model U tractor, but couldn't figure out whether I had the U-40 or U-318 power unit. Dale Haymaker of the Allis Chalmers Museum in Paris, IL provided me with the following information:
The difference between the U-40 and the U-318 is the U-40 engine was used in the U tractor serial # 7405-9988 and the U-318 engine was used in tractors serial # 12001 and up. U-40 has 300.7 CU and the U-318 has 318 CU. If it has an electric starter, chances are it is the U-318 but it was also an option on the U-40. The piston size on the U-40 is 4.375 and on the U-318 is 4.5.
The U tractors before serial # 7405 had a Continental engine in them with a piston size of 4.25 of which I do not think any power units were made. From his input and looking at model U tractor engine info on tractordata.com, I concluded mine is a U-318, and I think yours is also, as it looks identical. Hope this is helpful...
