I changed mine out some years ago.  Can't remember exactly how I did it.  I think I took the ammeter out and worked through the hole in the dash...

Good luck to you!

Take off steering wheel and raise the dash up after removing screws. HTH Tracy

Tracy, what is the safest way to remove the steering wheel without damaging it?  Is the cross bolt the only thing holding it on besides splines?

Dave,
On my 620 my steering wheel came right off. Took out the through bolt and the wheel came right off! The top part of the dash lifts after you take the screws out like Tracy said. It's a bear to git' yer' hand in there especially with the support brace that's part of the control panel. Sheesh!
