I had one for years and did not have good luck with it. As some might suggest however, it may have been the operator's fault. But, I've had a Stihl for the last 17 years and it has never failed me. FWIW.

I used to be dealer for Jonsered chain saws, as well as Husqvarna, Sachs Dolmar, Olympic, Lombard and a few other lesser-known chainsaws.
I sold quite a few Jonsered saws, but I sold more Husqvarna. The trouble with Husqvarna now is that they are sold everywhere, Farm and Fleet, etc., but few places service them.
Jonsered saws are good, quality material, but few dealers around. I'm sure if you did find a dealer, they would stand behind the product.

I used Jonsered saws for years full time logging they are great saws, So are Husqvarna and Stihl. Find a good dealer for any of them is the most important thing. I use Husks in my excavation work clearing lots and have no problems with my saws at all. Jonsered and Husks are made by the same company,some of the parts are interchangeable

Jonesarud is, from what I understand, a little more of a commercial version of Husqvarna and built in the same factory. My dad has two Jonesaruds and their ok. I've had still and they've been fine too. Most of my power products are Stihl. My next chainsaw will probably be a Dolmar.

My daughter and son-in-law have a commercial land clearing business. No one is harder on saws then their employees. Switched to Jonsered a few years ago and are very happy.
I have a Jonsered heavy duty saw as well. Very good saws.

I've had a 2165 Jonsered for about 7 years. It always starts and has cut everything I point it at with nothing more than simple maintenance. I've even used it some on an Alaskan Sawmill which is tough work for a chainsaw. Since its purchase I've never needed the dealer.

Whatever make you decide be sure it can be SERVICED locally !! All new saws are great until about 3 days after the warranty LOL

Have a Jonsered Super 630 with a 20" bar, has never failed me. Recently, it wouldn`t idle. Had been blowing out the plastic air filter element, but could not seem to clean the fine saw dust, replaced the element with a new one and now it idles, and runs like new again. Dealers are not very plentiful, but the saw has served me well. HTH

I prefer my old Partner R420....good luck finding one.....a few buddies have Jonsereds and they're great saws....same as a Husky though....always by XP or the commercial version...they last alot longer.....take a better beating. After being around some Jonsered's and Huskey's Im def. a fan....not soo much for Stihl anymore.

Thanks for the input, I am looking at a Jonsered 2186 or the new 2188, I thought about a 2171 but didnt know if it could run a 36" bar

My brother just bought a 2171 and is pretty impressed with it. Don't know if it could handle a 36" bar, but really works well with a 24". We have a few mid size older ones. but my brother wanted something with a faster chain speed for cutting the bigger logs quicker. My neighbor snapped up a good used one for about half price earlier in the day. Wish we would have seen it first. I was tempted to buy a used 70E, but parts are getting to be a problem for the older machines.

a local guy I know has a real nice 394XP Husky up for sale....that'll run a 36 inch bar.....I think he said 675.00 obo but Im a bit far away from you.

I bought one in 2001 and it still starts for me everytime. Just use it seasonally to cut branches off the fence, etc. Very happy with it.
Agree with the comment above-good local service is a top consideration.

I bought a new one 20-25 years ago, has never failed to start, even though at times it sits for months. My dealer closed years ago.

Friend (Steve Tilton) has the US distrubitorship for Johnsred (least he did) located here in MN, bought a 70E from him many years back .. Said the only thing i would wear out in my life was bottom of case from silding in and out of truck,
Good saws , only problem I had was the diaphram in carb , turned it over and works good again.
