How does one remove the 8 inch wheels from some of todays garden tractors and mowing machines that don't bolt to the axle.
I hear they are next to impossible to get them off the axle if they have rusted/welded themselves on over time.
I found a scrap yard close by where you pull them at $5 each with good tires. I believe I could build carts and wagons with them If I could get them off scrapped units without to much trouble. Maybe a hundred of them at this one location without counting.

weld a nut on the end center of wheel the same size as axle or shaft and use jack bolt to pull it off also with tiller tines this will save hours of time slice nut back off with die ginder and repaint

ummm. I never thought of that. Trouble is doing this in a scrap yard. the logistics of this happening is getting tougher all the time.
I may just buy two or three junkers. Take them home and pull the wheels and sell em back or trade them back for three more junkers with wheels and tires.
I may have to wait a few years until the newer units with the 4 bolt bolt circles end up as scrap.

you'd be suprised at all the good stuff you can get off them scrap garden tractors! may even be able to sell parts on here! I've made a few nice trailers for garden tractors out of old garden tractors, the framework on some is handy for things! pulleys and bolts can be used for a lot of things! plus it give you something to do in the winter!

Ken...check out bigiron.com, under shop equipment, they have a pallet load of tires and axles (they say welding carts) they all look good! think next big is $40. for all of them!
