XT was the turbo charged version. AC initially were going to call it XP for "Extra Power" but thought XT sounded better.

Norm stated it doesn't 'stand for anything' . I talked with Ray Doggett who was the marketing mgr for the line back in '76 and his group was faced with the competition of Deere and IH at a 90+ Pto hp. Engine group stated "We can give you the HP" Tractor group stated "we will give you the tranny in broken pieces in a basket" Ray had a decision to make - he went with the HP -then AC went through 3 different trannys to a final fix in the somewhat new 7000. One cannot convince me that during the round table some one didn't suggest XT without them thinking a 190 with an 'extra turbo'.    Wanna know why the xt was selected over the 195 ? The cost of the decal & set up . Today it is a key stroke - it was a big deal with a big cost to set up a decal in litho dept back then. They were in a cost crunch to begin with a little XT was cheap.

I was under the understanding that the XT stood for eXtra Torque, whether that is correct or not I don't know for sure.
