I had to get a new crank after the old one had its thrust bearing wear a pocket into the crank. It had new bearings in it (what looked like new) and the thrust one was badly worn. It only had half a bearing with a thrust surface. Is this normal, or should both halves have a thrust surface on the sides? Thanks for the help

Yes: The B,C and CA engines only have a single shell as the thrust bearing. If the machine shop did a correct job of grinding the crank, the front journal should be properly re-sized to fir a new bearing shell after the timing gear is installed. ------------- If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere. If you look close at your block you will find that it is not made for the thrust bearing shell.

If end play is excessive with the new thrust bearing in your rebuild kit the crank has to be welded up and reground to speck. If I remember right the new thrust bearing in the last rebuild kit I used was shorter than the one it was meant to replace. I just used the old one to fix the excess end play. |
