Found a 718H last week on craigslist. Went and picked it up in Freeport Il. yesterday. It's about a straight a tractor as I've found. I'll post pics when I figure out how to do it. They were only made in 78 & 79. This is the first one I've seen since I've been looking for garden tractors. Just wondering if anyone else had one or had experience with the 18 hp Kohler.

I had one in a new Bolens in approximately 1980. My experience may be singular, but I had a lot of electrical problems that were never straightened out from while it was still under warranty. The fail to start problem disappeared when I got to the dealer each time, so after many trips to the dealer, summer and winter,winching the unit by hand onto my trailer, I got so disgusted, I finally took a huge loss and sold it. Definately needed a large battery to start the single cylinder in the winter. I used it for snowblowing, mowing, and tilling, so I had a sizeable investment in this machine. The tractor and attachments were heavy duty, but the engine was junk, in my mind.

You don't see many. Seems the 718 is a bit more prevalent here than it's Simplicity brother, the 7018....at least in my experience. I've inquired on the last two that popped up locally on craigslist and both were sold or there was 'a guy on his way', each time (and I jump on these ads quick).

Any running K361 is going to make a tractor a hot item. I know many failed, and guys say it was due to the lack of lube to the OHV/rockers since they are setup on splash, but the engine is popular with collectors and pullers.

Can't wait to see it!

Ive had a couple of them, both engines were problematic. Seems they run to hot and either the valve guides in the head would come loose or the seats in the head would come loose. Either way meant loss of compression and a no run situation. Last time I checked you couldnt buy a new cylinder head-thats been a long time ago. I know pullers liked them-maybe they have billet heads made to get around the head problems. I have a long block 18 HP in the shop if anyone is interested-I think the guides a loose in the aluminum head.
