So, I am new to the forum. Recently acquired a AC D15 from a buddy who runs a local track and builds "farm stock" tractors.  3.5 mph rule.   I wanted to get into the hobby, and he had 2 tractors, an IH 560 that turned out to have some serious hydraulic issues, and this little D15.  I have a fetish for orange, musta been my 20 years in EMS...dunno.  Guess its fate.  (I also found out there is a "B" in a shed locally I am gonna scoop up)

So, my question is.... What are some performance upgrades I can do to this tractor without spending $5,000 on the motor.   I do have about $2K for  performance upgrades. I currently own a powdercoating / painting shop, so she will get a makeover soon enough.  I figure that sexy Persian Orange will give it at least 5 more HP.

I had looked at the keystone turbo for the IH, but they only make that for the WD series. Im just looking to spruce it up a little, but honestly have never done anything "performance" to any of my tractors.  Thanks for your help in advance. I have been all over this forum reading and searching, you guys are very helpful!   uploads/13752/MG951477.jpg" rel="nofollow - uploads/13752/MG951477.jpg

And I should also add, I don't expect to bolt something on and win pulls, I understand the theory of learning the track and my tractor. I just wanted to hear some things I may look forward to as I get some experience.

It doesn't seem as many people pull the D15, but plenty on the WD series.  I hope I didn't choose unwisely.

Typically in most clubs, the D15 is too "new". Most places have a 1959 and older rule

Also what series D15 do you have? The series II had the much spunkier 160 ci motor.

If you want something Orange for Stock pulls a WC or WD would be a better choice for slow classes. Both of those tractors could upgrade with stock parts to more HP. The 160 engine is as far as AC went with that block anything you do there will need to be custom work. Also the winning theory for pulling is "Get the biggest engine in the lightest tractor and go as fast as you can". I do see that you say the speed limit is 3.5 MPH so that won't completely apply here. The slow classes are a completely different game. The D15 engine will fit into a CA and at 2500 pounds is hard to beat, , whereas the D15 will need to be stripped to get to 3500 or so. Although if your 560 has hydraulic issues, why not just remove all the hydraulics? You don't need them for pulling.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.
If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.  Its a "plain D15".  I have some pics attached in the OP.  I was getting the feeling, reading through a bunch of posts, that the WC/WD was a better choice.

Charlie, I think it was a '65 or older rule here, but I need to make sure. It would suck if this was the only local place I could pull.
