I sure need some help!  Greetings all.  I have a 45 that I cannot get the RPM's right per specs.  I set the adjustments per the service manual on the throttle side and my rpm's go to 2100!  I set the rod on the carb side to just barely long (1/32 inch) and the engine races.  I can set the rpms at the right level by adjusting the throttle rods and it seems that I cannot do it unless I give up 1/3 or more of the hand throttle range.  Not to mention the fact that now the engine seems sluggish responding to the governor despite the carb rod seeming to the best adjusted of the bunch.  Thanks in advance for any help!  Kevin C.

I thing you need to adjust the small verticle rod that attaches to the piece that pulls the gov rod back towards the driver for full range of throttle.

MLPANKEY: It almost seems like one of the two rods on the throttle side are too short??  I cannot seem to get a full range.  The short rod is 7.5 inches and the longer rod is 27 inches (both rods on the distributor side).  Anyone close enough to their 45 to measure theirs.  Thanks much.

I think you have governor issues beause you should be able to due what ever you want to the throttle side of the linkage  and if that spring and the governor weights are working correctly it should hold it's rpm to 1400- 1500 rpm. The only thing that will change that is a a broken or weakened governor spring (likely) or lighter governor weights which would take more rpm to fly out to throttle back the carb (unlikely unless someone has cut them to get more rpm's to pull with)

Thanks much.  I will try to spend some more time adjusting and then look into the springs.  Kind of dread that though.  The inside of the governor seems like uncharted territiory to me!  Wish me luck.  Have a nice Easter everyone.

take youre throttle lever and pull it all the way down and use a pair of vise scrips to hold it there . Then with another pair of visescrips attached to the rod going to the governor pull it back until its as far back as the lever will go then lock the hold down screw  . if the rod doesnt reach when pulled all the way back you will need to loosen the verticle rod that pulls the bell crank back (thats the piece in under the tank thatis on a shaft thats attached if i remember correctly to the tool box) when everything is adjusted on the gov. side then with the throttle lever still locked wide open with the  visescrips go to the carb side and open the carb wide open . you need to make sure the carb rod is about a half a hole off and you have to push it back toward the radiator a little to make the rod go in the carb levers hole while the carb is still being held wide open. this preloaods the gov rod just a litle.  do all this with the tractor not running of coarse. hope this helps.

Definitely helps!  I will make these changes tomorrow and let you know how things go.  I wish I had thought of the vise grips idea today...would've saved some skin!  Thanks again.
