at $2000 more than last year! I'd like to see how the "factory" installed the 149 engine in this D17! I'm thinking this guy bought it from a farmer that sprayed a few too many acres without proper protection......

Funny how the orange paint hasn't stuck well or maybe even never has been applied to all the yellow engine. Those patches look like paint brush strokes. As for price, the seller is sniffing something if he thinks having that old sprayer and being in a somewhat grubby condition makes it worth 1/3 that much. He will own it a long time. Gerald J. |

| One look at the front axles and wheels is a testament to why this tractor is overloaded with those tanks on there and why i would suspect that the front end is totally junk. ACE may have made fire service pumps, but that one isn't one of them, it's just a run of the mill pto pump. |

It looks like a series III D17 Hi Crop. Its obvious that the front end is cobbled up.
Did Hi Crops have adjustable front axles? The axle on this tractor sure isn't ajustable any more! LOL. Gussets on the spindles and gussets on the "Heavy Duty" rims don't look like factory, I'd say more like the local weld shop.
200 gallons of water @ 8lbs/ gal = 1600lbs plus the weight of the sprayer, a bit over a ton on the front axle. Do you think that's overloaded?
Wasn't the I40 based on the D15? What was the D17 industrial version? I know it was available with a shuttle clutch and a heavy front axle. An industrial front axle would have been a better "option" than an undersized engine for "better gas mileage".
Wouldn't you like to see pictures from the book he mentions? I'd like to see some proof that this tractor is what he says. As it is he appears to have a Hi Crop, if it's factory it should be worth something more than a plain D17.
As far as the ACE pump he should drop by Farm & Fleet or Tractor Supply to see how common they are. To me the sprayer adds nothing to the tractors value, unless you needed a small sprayer. But a trailer type sprayer would be handier as it wouldn't tie up the tractor when you didn't need it.

It is funny to see how arrogant this fool is! I read the questions and someone was trying to point out something wrong(149) but he insists that is what it is, because a 226 is 6 cylinder? WOW! what an idiot! Like Gerald said, he'll own it a long time! Not a very good salesman.

Just read the D17 (including industrial) info in both Norm Swinford's bible and Terry Dean's Data Book. Pretty clear that the D17 came with either the 4 cyl 226 gas or the 6 cyl 262 diesel.....industrial version or not! ------------- WC, CA, D14, WD45 |
