Don't come here much,esp. with 3 D-14s but....
Ok, the old girl has lost a lot of power, engine has bad blowby, figure low,low compression, hard to start, need ether...
..wondering about replacing the engine with 'something'.
Can be diesel or gas, maybe something from a 'dead' car ??
I can't afford the $6000 to rebuild it from a local mechanic !!!
Any ideas, suggestions, help ?????
How big is the Buda that's in it? HP ??

Thanks

Jay

I don't know if you were thinking of doing the re-powering yourself with some different engine...it would require a lot of skill to fit something else into your machine and unless you do it all yourself it won't be cheap. If the current engine has acceptable oil pressure and doesn't knock you are very likely to be satisfied with new piston rings, new connecting rod bearings and a valve grind. Much of the time this type of overhaul will last for years. Parts will only cost a few hundred dollars. If you don't do this type of thing yourself look around for a mechanic with reasonable rates. A perfectionist mechanic will sneer at doing this type of overhaul but I see these jobs succeed nearly all the time when you're matching it with an older machine for practical use.
