I am getting some weights from Austin IL. Four 400 pounders. 1,600 pounds. Was going to drive the 8 hours plus one way but am now thinking Allis Express if available? If not I'll make the trip. Would the heavy weight be a problem for the express?

I looked to see if I could be of any help, since I have a couple small trips in the making... but you ain't going to see my Florida plates up there in that snow and cold! (I really ain't scared, just don't have a reason or the time to go that far right now!) Good luck getting them moved, if only part way, every mile helps! David from jax

I guess I'm not in a big rush guys. I need to get a hold of Austin and see what he thinks but I lost his phone number and address and he's gone until this coming weekend. I'll just have to PM him. Thanks fellas.

Anyone from Northern Iowa or MN going to the swap meet in Lathrop MO in March that may be willing to haul the weights? Someone suggested they could get the weights to the swap for me.

I will probably go. That would get them as far north as Des Moines. I have a cherry picker so transferring to another truck would not be a problem.

I used to be active in the classic air-cooled VW community (http://www.thesamba.com) where people will call on shipping parts via Samba Express from time to time.
Glad to see other communities have a similar option!

Lonn, how quick do you need them? Bigcountry48 and I will be heading up in April when the snow clears to Cambridge, Wi to Gary's place, TedJ has discussed meeting us there, our trailer will be empty going up and we will be going close to Austin's place...all that said, if Ted would agree and you could wait that long we could get them as far as Lacrosse? Would that help?

| Ted, I sent you a pm but if either you or Brian can manage the weights, it doesn't matter to me who. I really appreciate all you Allis folks. Ted, LaCrosse might be easier for me to make a trip to if that is alright with you. I wonder, is the weather going to be a problem for the swap meet? Jared said his trailer is buried in the snow right now.
Thank you

I could bring them up , I am going to Hutch this year .Willow Hill is a few hours away , but I am always up for a road trip.
Just read original post , 4 400 lb. weights 1,600 lbs total , Will the 3/4 ton HD Chevy safely carry that much ,. I do not plan on bringing a trailer . Would have to charge a few dollars to drag the trailer up there and back . I am game just don't know how much the truck will handle.

Pat, I hauled a 426 from near Iowa City up to my place with a 1500 Chevy. Was fully loaded to say the least and probably wouldn't do it again with a 1/2 ton. That engine I think, weighs around 1,600 or 1,700. Your call.
Someone PM'd me that says they can get them to Pella IA by late spring/early summer. That would put the weights 3-1/2 hours away. I could maybe do that and maybe haul something for someone down to Pella at the same time if someone needs.

If the 3/4 Ton Chevy won't handle it, why not let him use your 68 Chevy? At least he could have fun making the trip... David from jax
