I've been tossing the idea around of putting an alternator on my 412. I know it has it's own charging system but I'm wondering if I could convert to an alternator system. Reasons? 1.) I may be placing a large load with some possible electric gizmos and want to be sure I'm not killing the battery. 2.) I have a feeling it'll work and want to try it, LOL! Any input is appreciated. I may just get convinced it's doomed if the argument is good enough.

Does a 412 use a starter/generator?  That would complicate things a bit. Not sure what gizmos you plan on using, but unless they are constant draw high amp load things, the stock system should handle things.  Lights can be LED, they draw almost nothing.  Lifts would be short burst.  Even electric water pumps for spraying only run a few amps.

I googled it, came up with a 'rear engined' rider. If that's it, the only practical way might be to add a 'lovejoy' coupling to the engine on top. You'll need to fab a strnong bracket system, get things lined up pretty good too.
The better, easier idea is to find a spot for a GOOD, big 'car battery'.The engine's altnerator is good for 15 amps, so it'd recharge the battery easily.

just ideas..

DANG IT!!! 410 410 410!! LOL!! I keep doing that! It's a 410 shuttle. 12 horse Kohler. Never know what I'm thinking. I've found a few articles on other tractor sites where guys have done this. Some ran all the time, some ran off the PTO so you have a choice. Just something I've wondered about. MyTractorForum.com

it can be done. if you have the pulley that will bolt to the flywheel to run the belt off of.
i've retrofitted a pulley and bracket off of a b series, or a simplicity 3300 series to fit the 3 and 400 series allis tractors, to run an electric winch on.
a GM one wire alternator and regulator of of a pre 78 chevy truck with  small block works well. similar to converting a WD over to 12volt.
