i'm intending to change the oil bath filter on my wc to a dry k&n mounted behind the 464 body  carb.......any pros and cons to mounting directly at carb, or use a piece of pipe (what length?)   between carb and filter.......

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  dont use a k&n, they have a known history for letting air that is unfiltered and pure dust get past them.

Alan, you want to mount the filter where it will recieve the coolest air posible.

Above the hood is best, but if you use a metal tube that is bent by a tailpipe bender with a pinched corner.......I don't know how good that is. Smooth mandrel bent piping as larger or larger diameter than the carb inlet is best. K&N filters are fine when oiled properly.
