Took a little drive Saturday and brought home some goodies. A full set of wheights for my series IV D17 A narrow front and a nice matched pair of used front tires for my "bar grill" D17 Two states, 650 or so miles and the boys and I got to meet a couple new people. Thanks Phil and Clay! We had a good day and we can move along on a couple projects now. And until I take that pallet of weights off, the truck rides pretty nice and I don't think I'll have any traction problems if I need to plow snow. LOL

Are you sure you really need those front pancake weights? I could take them off your hands for you and stick them on my WD-45 if you don't have room for them. ;) LOL

not to.long ago was tring to sell full set of weights on ebay ,These are not the same ones are they .They were on a d-17111 i think.Anyway have fun

Dave make sure you have pictures for us when you get it all mounted.Just curious what year is your iv,and is it a gas or deisel.Mine is a 67 iv gas ,they sure are nice tractors.I just wish i could of bought my dads iv when he sold out in 1991,someone got a nice 17iv and it had only 3200 hours on it,It was an auction in Woodstock il.,the guy drove it down the road so it didnt go far.My dad doesnt have any idea what serial number was.Does anyone know where it went.Take care Dave.

Yep, these weights were bought on Ebay from Clat's Tractors and were off a series III. Clay is a nice guy and we brought home the set of tires too. My series IV was my Dad's. it's an early one, a 1964 gas with factory 3pt. We plan on getting it running and doing a little paint work. I need to get some before pictures. Phil has quite a hill on the road up to his place, about half way up we had to get out and lock in the front hubs. LOL! Phil it was cool seeing your WF and IB's, if it wasn't so cold I would have liked to have visited longer. Maybe next time! Phil's narrow front is going on my "Bar Grill" 17. It's in peices now but I think I've collected enough parts to start putting it back together. The wide front is worn out and "tweaked" kinda like the rest of the tractor. LOL

Dave, Nice AC items. I am going to guess that hundreds of thousand of D17s were manufactured? Someone on this site may know exactly? But, those weights seem very hard to find ~ 650 miles. It gets me wondering. Did these series just not have a need for that much front end weight? Could a D17 lift a 3-4bottom plow without lifting its weightless nose?

Ted, those weights were over 300 miles away from me in Wisconsin, usually the really good deals or stuff I want most are at least 3 states away. The D17 is a pretty well balanced tractor, we used to use 4 row rear mounted cultivators with no front weights and didn't have any problems. I have a 4 bottom sc plow that the 17's pick up like it's nothing. We had an AC 3 pt 4 row rotary hoe that i used to love as a kid. You pulled it as fast as you could, when you got to the endrows with the series IV you pulled the 3pt lift and the front end was 3 feet in the air before the hoe came off the ground, you used the brakes to turn the tractor around and then dropped the hoe and away you went again. That 226 would sing, it was better than any carnival ride! Later I used an AC 8 row 30" folding rear mount cultivator on the series IV and I made a bracket to hang a wheel weight on the front.

62,867 D17's produced according to Dean's Data book. The front stack weights are an odd thing, they are NOT rare. Heck, Steiners makes them brand new with the original mold from Allis Chalmers ! But for some reason the price for old ones is as much if not more than a new one.

I remember the road to your place, Phil, and it's quite the hill to climb. No surprise the 4wd was needed with a load.
