    Posted: 23 Mar 2018 at 9:04pm
I can buy PPG paint at my local CARQUEST store. They looked it up for me today. Allis Chalmers Persian orange, brand code 60080. It didn't specify if it was Persian orange 1 or 2. I think I need Persian orange 2, but they couldn't tell me which one it was. They said that was all they could find in their computer. I think AMAC wrote in a post a while back that Persian orange 2 matched an old code 60396. I'm going to take that code to them and see if they can cross reference it or anything, but I assume every brand of paint has their own codes, so it probably won't work. Does anyone know any PPG paint codes for Persian orange 2?

I got my cream paint and primer at Napa, but I'm not going back to them for the orange because of the trouble I had. Although Napa did have more than one version of Persian orange. I'd like to try this PPG because of the good things I read about it. Thanks Ranse.

60080 is Persian Orange #1  -Used on tractors before about 1960

60396 is Persian Orange #2  -Used on tractors after about 1960 until the switch to Corporate Orange

This has been covered many times in the past, a search will find more info.  But it pays to have the right code, take it from a guy who has a tractor the wrong color after letting the guy behind the counter talk him into his incorrect info.  Came in with the right code, but that was a long time ago when I didn't know anything, live and learn.

Thanks Jacob, I didn't think 60396 was still a useable code. I'll see if they have it in their computer. It would be nice if they had some samples to look at, but this will be a shot in the dark.

I doubt it is still the currently used code, but any GOOD paint store will be able to cross it to whatever the new modern code is in whatever paint you are using.  If they can't cross it, they probably aren't who you should be getting your paint from in my opinion.  Same goes with paint advice, if they can't talk you through what to do and how you should be using the paint, they don't know what they are talking about and you should take your business elsewhere.  This has come up here recently too.  Support a place with excellent customer service.

The 60396 number is of the same vintage as the 60080. If they can cross reference one they should be able to cross the other.

Proceed with slow caution. The code numbers are for the Ditzler line of paint that PPG produced. Depending on what type of paint you are going to spray (acrylic urethane or basecoat/clearcoat) the paint store may be a new enough dealer that they may not know how to properly convert the code to the newer product lines. I haven't used any PPG product in awhile so i'm a bit rusty on the current lineup. PPG paint is excellent paint to use.

I believe amac (who posted above) sells PPG paint. He should know what the paint codes are.

The current PPG lines are OMNI and Shopline for entry-level paints, good enough for a tractor. I have gotten 60080 OMNI in the last few years and 60396 should also be available.

That's a very useful list, thanks. 60396 seems to be the right number. CARQUEST should be able to mix it. The mixing scheme on the card for the 60080 they gave me says Omni AU, so it's not Ditzler I suppose. I may try to find another store, one that has sample cards to look at. CARQUEST can mix it for you, but right or wrong you're stuck with it.

Ranse, as I've posted before (years back) it used to bother me if I didn't think the correct shade of Orange was used but when I stepped back and looked in my barn I soon changed my mind. Now I feel that the person paying for the restoration is the one that needs to be happy with the end restoration and him alone. Now that I've confessed again,i expect you can go to the same paint mixer, pro or not ,will have a different shade each time mixed. With the computer scanners and mixers they use now it may be better now. Been a while but when I painted the last one I did use ditzler 60080 in urethane mixed at a auto paint ppg dealer and I don't think it is available any more. I'll ask Donnie what he used on his wf and uc because they look close. Again if you are happy with the end product, i will be happy with you. Painting pink ,purple and odd colors still bothers me a bit but I am working on it. Sorry for the long post but I got to get humble every few years haha Scott
Ps. Good luck and see you soon.
Allis Chalmers still exist in my mind and barns

I just got some PPG 60080 Omni mixed today at a Car Quest auto parts that sells PPG paint.  He also said that 60396 was a good number and he could mix that also. The color looks good.
