I picked up a set of 28” power adjust wheels that I believe were from an ih. The bars are a little longer , meaning more overlap one side of rim to the other . Will these work on an allis or will the angle of the bar across the rim be too different ?

It depends on the width of the rim. 28" x 16" for 18.4 x 28 tires are that way on a 170/175/180/185. 15" wide might be the same to a lessor degree. I think all rails must be the same length.

they were 12” had 14.9-28 on them but are definitely a little different than any I currently have.

Each tread setting "change" is 2 inches on an Allis wheel. Why would these be different ?? on the angle or tread change ?? Just askin.... A late ( III and IV) D-17 wheel has LONGER rails with MORE tread settings than a WD45 wheel, but they interchange. 180/185 wheels use the same length rails on a wider wheel and only fit the tractor one way. Count how many tread setting choices you have and I'll bet that is what the difference is. When replacing both wheels at once, things should be fine.

there are many more settings for spacing on these . My concern is that the rims i have is that the end of the one rail where it ends on one side of the rim is almost directly across from a rail where it starts on the other side. This pair i got where one ends is a few inches past where the one on the other side starts . I just wasn’t sure if that would change the angle enough so that my allis lockers wont have the correct angle to go over them .

Well then, try a pair of locks by themselves. SOME rails have lock holes drilled square to the rim and some are drilled square to the rail. Each requires its own type of lock. Figure it out.

I believe AC had 2 different rim stops for power adjust rims. Both using the same bolt.
#70218662, 70230832, are numbers for lock bolt.
#70219456 is the most common rim stop. This positions lock bolt @ 90* to edge of rim so heads point straight out. #70232274 is the odd rim stop. They have a larger body. Bolt hole is at 90* to the rail. My guess is that at some time AC purchased rims & rim stops from an oddball vendor and used 90* angle to the rail instead of the common 90* to edge of rim to avoid a patent issue. Set these on normal rail and hole in rail disappeared. I mistakenly got a pair of these for a 190XT that didn't have stops on backside of rail. Wasn't my usual dealer but they had 2 in stock, so had I them shipped to me. |

Calvin, they are not all the same length. I have 8 rails on the shelf, was going to build another set of 15x28" spin-outs. Haven't been able to find another donor rim so I would have 8 the same length. Ok, kind of forgot about this project too. I was majorly disappointed when I figured out the rails were different! It's a lot of work and not so much fun getting those rails ready to weld in the new blanks!!!

I have seen that on the power shift rims that AC used, the rail comes out over the bead on one side and has a square spacer block welded below for support. This is not the case on some aftermarket PS rims that I've seen. Some also have the hole in the rim for the stop drilled right angles to the rail and use a different smaller stop (MF).
