    Posted: 15 Jun 2011 at 9:03am

I've been looking for a project tractor for awhile and found this little guy.  SN: WD198294 (55-56 WD45) Its missing the starter, generator, oil filter, snap coupler, plug wires, the gear shifter comes right out of the tower and the block is from a WD with brazed repairs on the left hand side.  Both rear wheels are rust eaten, one really bad.  It has a Schwartz wide front end with "custom" adapter plates to make it fit, 3 pth is the same way.  Good news is the asking price.  I would not want this to take forever to get running nor would I want to spend a fortune.  I'm new to restoring tractors and really all I want is a decent looking worker not a parade quality piece.  Using your calibrated eyes let me know what you would pay for it and what you would expect to spend getting it to run reliably.

$400 is about what I was thinking.  The motor has me a little worried.  If the block is toast then thats another chunk of change.

All ya got there is iron price.    Anything worth  money is either gone or bad.  Youll have quite a bit of cash in tires, rims, and eng repairs, let alone the shifter, starter and genny and probably wiring.     It is repairable a definate project.  Good luck.

Buy it for a pars tractor, part it out and sell the rest to China. There are LOTS of good running 45s out there for $800 that need a rim, tire , or manifold, etc. That one is pretty rough, but I see some part$$$$
sometimes I walk out to my shop and look around and think "Who's the idiot that owns this place?"

I have to agree, that is pretty rough for $400.00, I think you have a lot of work and money to go with that one.  A good running but rough WD shouldn't be over $600-$800 depending on what part of the country you are in.  A WD45 will run a little more.  I don't think I could offer much more than $250.00 for that piece, may not get it bought, but it might.

If this would be your first one I think you would get discouraged and have a real light wallet when done. Like everyone said there are better deals out there.
Everything is impossible until someone does it! WD45-trip loader 1947 c w/woods belly mower, 1939 B, #3 sickle mower 1944 B, 2 1948 G's. Misc other equipment that my wife calls JUNK!

Thanks for the opinions.  I think you guys are probably right about this being more than I can chew.  I'm really looking for something that runs or could run for under $1000 and I doubt this one would make it at that price point.  It's tempting because its close and I've been looking for a CA, WD, or WD45.
