Wife and I had a porch deck built 15 years ago with treated lumber. We did not stain it then question is what would it look like if stained now? Should we just build a new one? Old one is solid just looks weathered. Thanks Gary

I just picked up deck stain at Sutherlands, color is cedar and am very happy with it. It actually looks better on older wood. I thought it was oil base until I tried to clean the brush with lacquer thinner to no avail, then I read the can that said use soapy water. If the wood is solid I would stain it because I just spent more than I wanted on a 15X 20 rebuild last fall.

when you powerwash it you'll NEED 2-3 days of warm,DRY weather to dry out the deck !! Be SURE it's really, really dry......BTDT..

Wash dry and seal. It will look good if the wood is still good.

Our deck is 35 year old. It was stained and now has been painted with the deck renewsit material which is pretty good, but any of them need some maintenance. Yes I would powerwash and then see what it looks like. Use stain to finish. I need to replace the top board and am going to use man made material.
Regards, Chris

To Chris and any others here the man made deck boards won’t span as far as wood. Make sure you read on the material before you buy and install on an existing deck. I’m not knocking the stuff but I have learned from experience that it won’t span like wood.

I power wash then let dry a few days then spray on with a pump sprayer a concoction of 4 parts Thompson's Water Seal and 1 part boiled linseed oil.

my deck is 44 years old, still strong, we use Clorox on it and brush with a stiff broom, rinse it and apply a water proof stain. we also let it dry a week before applying the stain. when I built it, I used 2x10 in frame boards and 2x6 top boards. no sags in the framework yet
