I have a pocket gopher that is digging up my new lawn. I have tried a trap and the darn thing just plugged the tunnels. Does rat poison work? I have read about trying to gas them out, has anyone tried that?

I got a B&S on a rider you can use...it'll also kill every skeeter in two countie !!
just give it 10 minutes to warm up...lol actually a rider may be easier to get to the hole. Or an 8N, just unbolt and drop exhaust pipe into hole. Jay |

An old fellow use to take his worn out rider tht smoked a lot out to the fields and had a little canopy over it and would also have a length of hose and a shovel along too... he would add extra oil to the gas so it would smoke even more. then he would find a runway and putthe hose in and go out to the perimeter and poke a few holes into the runways so the exhaust traveled the whole lengths of the runways. then sit down under the shade and read a book for about 10-15 minutes. then move on to the next community to smoke them dirt rats out.

ac fleet, I've never had ANY luck with that stuff. The best thing I know of is a gal who lives down the road. When she sets a trap, it goes off 99% of the time and gets one of em. It's amazing, I can set 9 traps and nothing, but she sets just one and BAM!! I've watched her do it, but I just don't get it.....I guess I'm just not pretty enough??

moles are on site to eat GRUBS............ the fix is to KILL THE GRUBS.. then the moles leave and go somewhere else ........ an added advantage is the GRUBS done grow up to be beetles or other that eat fruit trees, and kill other trees...
I use a pellet form that you spread with a fertilizer spreader.. I think SPECTRICIDE makes it, Triazanon or something like that... Make sure it says KILLS GRUBS... normal "bug" spray does not work. Comes in a 10 # green plastic bag... MENARDS $7.00

ive been told to use juicy fruit gum .
Killing Gophers with Juicy Fruit GumStep 1: First of all, cut many sticks of chewing gum into the pieces of about ½ square inches. Step 2: Now, use a shovel, small hand spade, or any tool to dig into a mole tunnel. Remove the top layer of the soil, but try not to disturb the rest of the tunnel. Step 3: Place one of the pieces, which we cut earlier, into the hole. Step 4: Now, cover the hole again with dirt, just like before. Make sure, you don’t press too hard because doing so can close up the tunnel. Step 5: Repeat this process wherever you find their tunnels in your property. |

I use the old spring traps (leg hold) type - dig tunnel open large enough to set trap into bottom of run - cover area with board and dirt around edges to block all light . Be sure to stake the chain on the trap or it might be carried off and or buried and it's easy to find with chain staked outside of cover .
Heard you couldn't buy these traps anymore - then was in sporting goods section of Fleet Farm and they have all kinds of them and all sizes also . Edited by Coke-in-MN - 29 May 2018 at 9:38pm |
