WONDERING IF THERE WOULD A PROBLEM PUTTING A TEE IN THE PRESSURE AND RETURN LINE BEFORE THE REMOTE / 3 PT VALVE SO THAT I CAN PUT A JOY STICK VALVE FOR THE LOADER. I LOCATED THE 2 LINES AND WANTED TO GET SOME INPUT BEFORE I CUT THE LINES

i think the FACTORY valve dumps back to sump until you move the lever to direct oil to the cylindner and BUILD UP PRESSURE.... So the line only has 100 psi (??) when the remote is not engaged... ???
if you ENGAGE the remote and lock in that position, then you could use your loader valve-- and IT would recycle the oil back to SUMP when the loader was not being used. ??? Is that right DR ??

He needs a open-center joystick valve that has the "power beyond" feature. Send the hydraulic oil from the pump to it FIRST and then from the joystick valve onto the tractor valve. Everything will then work as it should. A tee won't work at all.

I just put a 3pt log splitter with a closed center valvue on the back of my 185 to use.
I'll have to tie up the hydraulic lever on the tractor to supply oil to the log splitter all the time. Will this cause any harm to the pump have pressure to the splitter constantly? |

A closed-center valve on a 185 ?? Bad idea. You will have to tie a remote lever into engagement to have oil available for the closed-center valve, yes. This forces the hydraulic systems relief valve to open and squeal, creating excessive heat and placing the hydraulic pump under a constant 2200 psi load, which it CANNOT withstand for long. Nothing good is going to come from this. If the hydraulic pump doesn't fail first, the nose of the camshaft may well break off.

the splitter should have an OPEN CENTER valve to recirc oil back to the sump.. YOu dont want MAX PRESSURE on the pump and line when the cylinder is not being stroked..
Dave... some valves can be MODIFIED by removing a plug so that the valve becomes OPEN CENTER... look at the manufacturer spec for your valve. Edited by steve(ill) - 27 Mar 2025 at 8:32am |

Thanks guys, it has a closed center valve becasue it's usually on a JD 3020 with closed center hydraulics. I hooked it up and wanted to try it on my 185 but then was thinking and afraid it might be a bad idea

FOund a ocnversion pluf I can buy to change from Closed to open Center. Thanks for the idea. I wouldn't have thgouht of that.
It's a prince valve. I'll put in a recommendation for Prince. Made in the USA. I called and got a receptionist form the US. Left a VM with the guy I needed and didn't expect a call back. he called back within 10 minutes. I emailed him pictures of my 18 year old valve and in about an hour he found and sent the part number I needed for the conversion plug. |
