So I've seen you guys post photos of planters for years, and I always assumed my grandfather's planter was the same style. But now that I'm looking at it closely, I haven't found a photo anywhere on the web that matches our planter. See the 'Y' shaped support leading to the axle, and see how low the rear hoppers mount. Neither of those features matches all the photos you guys and others have posted on the web. I assume it's just a very old version. It has the WD pin hitch. Can anyone give anymore details?

A couple other differences... the whole setup is much longer than the standard 2 row planter... see how far apart the front and rear hopper mounts are. Also, there's a spring tooth shank (or something like that) mounted right in front of both openers... you can barely see one in this photo above the '2011'.

Looks like your fertilizer attacments are up front, rather than behind like on the drill planter. I have a lot of planter literature, but nothing like what you show here.

Swinfords book shows one listed as an "All Crop" planter. Its behind a d14 in his book. I don't have it in front of me, but if memory serves me it looks similar to the drill planter.

Adam, I think you nailed it... page 252 of Swinford'd book. Unfortunately he barely mentions the All Crop planter.

Bill Long was able to give me some more info... with his permission, I've pasted his response below... can't thank him enough. If anyone else has one, I'd love to see photos. I'm especially hoping to see one in better shape than ours, as the photo in Norm's book is hard to make out.
Thanks for the inquiry concerning the All Crop Planter. We closed our dealership in 1962. Just before we closed I remember a planter that came out putting the fertilizer into the ground first and to the side and below the seed line. We did not sell any since they were just coming out. Checking the post, MR SWINFORD'S book - as noted in the forum, and My Father's Price Book, Allis Chalmers did make an All Crop Planter. It was made for D-17. D-14, or WD-45 Tractors. Pop's price book indicates that it required a snap coupler hitch and lift arm latches. You have a very rare planter made by Allis Chalmers. It seemed right after the development of the All Crop Planter that the no till was developed so it had a relatively short life. Hope this is some help. If I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to let me know. Good Luck! Bill Long Edited by Murph-NC - 23 Oct 2011 at 8:38pm |

I had the priviledge of speaking to Mr. Norm Swinford this morning... I called him to see if he had more details on this planter. I gave him the page number in his book (252) and he said that's all the information he knows about that model. I'm going to mail him a photo to see if it jogs his memory. He said his health is doing pretty well now.

Mr. Bill Long has helped fill in some of the blanks. Here are two pages from his father's price book that detail the planter. Can anyone use any of these numbers to help me find more info on this planter or possibly find a manual for it? By the way, I'll also be needing one of the fertilizer disk openers listed at the bottom of the second page. I'm hoping it matches openers used on other planters or lister planters. I'll post it separately too.
