This is my Dad's Massey 44 standard diesel. The motor has a very unique sound to it, and it's a lot more fun to drive after we added the Char-Lynn power steering.

Here is our late 1936 WK-40 that my dad and I own jointly. My grandpa purchased this tractor in the early 1960's to use on our 52 inch circular mill. It performed that duty very well until it was retired in the late 1970's when we moved to a Chevy 307 power unit. It mostly sees light duty playtime nowadays, but I would like to put it back on a sawmill sometime. You could hear the bark of the old 40 for miles when under load!
I took a picture of the 40 and my Model U side-by-side to show the size difference. A fairer match would be a Model A, but the scrappy U will hold his own, LOL. ![]() ![]() |

I like tractors of all colors! there is no need to discriminate against any! I worked at a White dealer when the American series 60/80's came out. What a great little tractor! 4b cummins, and oliver drivetrain with a toggle switch for the over/under shift. I never have seen one in the optional colors, we did sell a couple with cabs. I also like the spirit of oliver. Is it a 185? Have the toy, just never saw a real one. Thanks for sharing! Ed.

Here's a better picture of the Massey 30 at FIL just before his sale. He sold it to me just before his sale for a pretty reasonable price.

This is our Case 801B. My son has a blast pulling logs out of the woods with it. The COM Helps out a lot when trying to teach the boy about a clutch. He just lets it out, looks forward and gives it the juice and laughs

This is a strange place to ask this question, but where did the Spirit of Oliver tractor end up? Did it go to work on a farm or is it in a museum someplace? Pretty unique marketing gimmick, right up there with the flat black painted Gleaner. My bosses had a few of the White "American" tractors on their lot when I worked at the dealership, but big tractors were better sellers for them. I thought they were kinda neat, too. We had a new 4-270 on the lot for a while that was a thrill to drive, almost as good as a 4W305-but not quite.
