Is there any place to get Persian orange 1 in either spray cans ,quarts or gallons or do you have to get it custom mixed at a paint store?

Any agco dealer that’s worth anything should have it. Spray and quarts. Gallons are hard to get nowadays. Thank the epa on that one.

I got the Tallman's Ag Specialties PO #1 in quarts and spray cans.  It matches the original paint chemistry and color fairly well but may not be the toughest paint.  Its available via yesterday's tractors and all states.

I guess there are a lot of inadequate AGCO dealers. Every one that I have called says they are out and it is on backorder (for quarts).

I started in the business in 1975 and A-C didn't even offer the old orange color thru the parts dept. It was obselete and all you could get was Persian Orange #2. In the mid 1980's I painted several tractors the old Persian orange #1 and always had to have a paint supplier mix it for me.

A couple years ago I bought a rattle can of PO1 from my local AGCO dealer to see how the color looked.  I did not like it.  It looked too brown.  I compared it to the original PO1 on a couple of my tractors and it was completely different.

Glad I didn't use it when I restored my G.  I went with a color called Omaha Orange.  Not completely identical, but very close.

When I painted my low hour/one owner 1957 WD-45, while prepping it I pulled each wide front axle leg out to clean the inside of the square tube. They had painted these legs prior to installing them at the factory. It was interesting to see how much the exposed paint had faded over the years but, really felt that protected orange paint was the same as PPG60080. That's what I painted it with and feel it was quite accurate. Many years earlier I had always used Dupont Dulux and it's number was 008. The elderly experienced lady told me that was paint code number "8", that's how old it was. She said prior to WW2, which was correct.

AMAC is no longer in business. I think Merlin retired and closed shop. I reached out to him a few years ago. He had great PPG paint, sprayed nicely and the color looked great. That was PO2 though. I’m positive he sold PO1 also. I still have 3/4 of a gallon left. Bought 3 gallons at that time. Wish I had more. Unfortunately the formula is no where on the can. Local PPG dealer said to spray a flat panel and bring it back and they would let the computer take a picture of it and go from there. Allis Chalmers Alkyd enamel Q1590-9090. They said those numbers didn’t come up in the system.

I did compare the Tallman's PO1 to a protected original paint section I cleaned up.  It was almost perfect.  Of course no lead in the new paint though.

I'm lucky enough to have an AGCO dealer 15 minutes from me.

I really like the AGCO paints.

I used AGCO when my cousin and I redid my WD about 2 years ago. Got 4 quarts and 4 spray cans. I'm sure the price has gone up yet again though.

I have been trying differnt spray cans for my WD.  I'm thinking that Valspar for Allis Chalmers is looking pretty good.  Problem is that i'm have a hard time finding them lately

AGCO's paint is made by Valspar. The last time I tried, spray cans were still available (that may have changed), but quarts were unavailable. Every AGCO dealer I tried was out of stock and it was on backorder. I did find two quarts from Sandy Lake.

Now get yourself a quart of Valspar Renew hardener (not cheap!) to mix with the quarts for a lasting mirror like shine.
I get my hardener from John Deere, since they also use Valspar paint.
I mix 4 paint - 1 reducer - 1 hardener (and sometimes a little more hardener if I want a really nice shine).

The old oranges are getting harder to obtain by the year, I haven't gotten any PO 1 in about 10 years and even back then it was a modified formula from PPG. The yellow and red tints they require are all the nasty lead-based ones that are discontinued.

I use this acetone from John Deere, but acetone is acetone. When this is gone I will probably just buy acetone at a local hardware store.
