I've known about this and have been using it for a while and have seen reference to it before. The results are interesting.
Machinist's Workshop did a test of penetrating oils where they measured the force required in a standard test to loosen rusty test devices. The results reported were interesting. The lower the number of pounds the better. Mighty interesting results for acetone and automatic transmission fluid! Penetrating oil . Average load .. Price per fluid ounce None ............ ..... 516 pounds . WD-40 ............ .. 238 pounds .. $0.25 PB Blaster ......... 214 pounds .. $0.35 Liquid Wrench ... 127 pounds .. $0.21 Kano Kroil ........ 106 pounds .. $0.75 ATF-Acetone mix.. 53 pounds .. $0.10 The ATF-Acetone mix was a 50/50 mix (1 to 1 ratio) _________________________________ John Kallend Professor and Associate Dean Armour College of Engineering, IIT |

We used Kano Kroil for years in an industrial environment with great results. I had not heard of the transmission fluid and acetone mix until a couple of years ago. It is an interesting result that the cheapest is the best penetrant. Tim

Looks like the parts store just lost me, lol going to have to try that ATF and Acetone mix, I use ATF in my partswasher to neutralize the bite a little bit, I use "Purple Power" in it, if you put that stuff in straight, it will eat the paint outta the tank, ask me how i know and why my filter was plugged with paint slime, LOL! The stuff is incredible though! |

I've got an old Twin City parts tractor sitting out back that had been stuck for years. I loaded the cylinders with the 50/50 mix before Christmas and it freed up this week and just rolls over nice on the crank now.
