Gemdozer, can the HD5 transmission that has a single reverse be made into a two speed reverse transmission? Or does it require a transmission that has the second reverse in it already?

The HD5 had two different tranny cases. Read the top of the picture below and see part #4. See the picture below. The tranny on the left is a two speed reverse. The one on the right is single speed. Notice the case on the left has a bulge on the right hand side. That is where the high speed reverse gear sits. The tranny on the right does not have the bulge. The high speed reverse gear runs on a horizontal shaft. If you have a tranny with the bulge, you also need to see if the case was machined to accept the shaft. See the picture below. To the right of the fourth bolt from the top is where the plug for the shaft should be. It is not there. That means this case was cast to accommodate a high speed reverse, yet was not machined for it. While this looks like a high speed reverse tranny, it is not. |

RCwitzel, Thanks for the information. From what it looks like, that the single speed reverse is 5 forward, while the 2 speed reverse has only 4 forward... Would have been kinda neat if they had stuffed the 2nd reverse in and left the 5 speeds in it. |
