I know this is the wrong color but yesterday I went to start the old Oliver and drive it around a little and when I pulled the lever that turns the power on everything worked as it should. Then when I went to push the starter button it didn't do anything. On top of that the button got really hot really quick. What is wrong here.
 
Too bad I don't have the hand crank or I could crank start it and forget the starter and button thing for now.

If you've got an Oliver then you HAVE a problem! LOL

Did you check to see the wires are tight on the switch? Starter stuck in gear?

 Sounds like the switch is grounding out if it is getting hot.

Start tracing it back . Is the switch the type that operates a solonoid , if so then disconect the wire from button and check that with meeter or bulb, if OK then check solonoid or starter itself.
 If Delco type starter weth solonoid it has 2 sets of windings , pull in and hold in , which are controlled by the disc in cap of solonoid.  If it is drawing full voltage through button to ground solonoid you will have a problem.

Those push button switches tend to get problems.  The first thing I'd try is getting a new one of those.  I've fixed several of them by tearing them apart and making new insulation for the terminals.  It sounds like when you push in the button, you are probably grounding something in the switch.
