I know that battery brands were discussed this winter, but my search is not helping me to locate that thread. I have a 96' dodge cummins 12V 5.9L diesel that I want to get new batteries from Napa. That thread listed some more expensive round cell types that I can not remember their names. Someone mentioned something about the independent cells type batteries not breaking their inner metal strips or something? I want to make sure I get the right type. Napa changed there website, so I have a little learning curve there also. Thanks for your help.

Go to Costco and buy one (or two) of their batteries. The regular batteries (rectangular) are made by Johnston, and are probably the best in the business.

If you get your battery from NAPA it will be an EXIDE, that may be a place for you to start.

optima's are the way to go. Dry cells. Lots of guys are putting them in restored cars/tractors in case of an acid spill so it won't mess the paint up

On our 98 Dodge diesel - cut one end out of the plastic box battery sits in then installed two 31 series Cat truck batteries with 1000 amp. Really turns the motor over. |

We used to sell the Optima Batteries to our Streetrod and Antique car customer's as larry mentioned. They seem to be a great Battery. They still have some acid in them, but not as much as your standard wet cell battery. The double case they had was nice also. We lost the stocking dealer thing quite a while back because they are a lot more expensive than a standard wet cell, so we didn't sell a lot of em'. They offered a 6V version for quite a while, but its long and skinny size was to large at the time to fit in an early 6V OEM Tractor box. The 12V version would probably fit in a newer Diesel Tractor box...

Last time I checked the 800 amp Optima batteries at Costco were $129 but I think prices are different at other Costco branches.

I bought my Bobcat 7753 used back in early 2000. It had a brand-new Interstate battery in it then and that SAME Interstate battery is STILL going strong after 11 years! I am a firm believer in Interstate batteries and use them in all of my vehicles & equipment. I have also had good luck with AC Delco batteries too.

I know a 2900 Kubota with the original battery from 1996. I think thats how old the oil was in it too that we changed. Its only now starting to get a little weak. 800 Hours on an oil change..
ACDelco batteries seem to be good too. Got one that is 7 years old and still holds 90%. Got an interstate that came out of a 2004 Jeep in the WD45, not sure if its OEM or not. Starts the tractor fine. Only holds like 70-80% after a few days. |
