Once in a lifetime???

Jennifer brought home some peaches. These were the sweetest juiciest peaches ever. I love peaches and wonder if these were a once in a life time deal? I don’t know what kind they are or where they were grown. Dark colored not real fuzzy and don’t Klingon to the seed.
I’d like to have a basket full.
These are better than the ones we stole off Mr. Irwin’s trees as a kid.

Yeah,,some years ago My Mother had saved some apricot seeds and gave me one of the baby trees she grew and is what I have in front yard. Excellent tasting apricots but very, very dumb trees,,,,, Wink

When you plant a stone fruit seed you have know Confused

idea of what kind of fruit Confused

you will get. Well yes a peach will be a peach ,an apple a apple but it will not be like the one your eating. Some really clever guy Smile

came up with grafting 100's or 1000's of years ago.

Laetrile is the ingredient your thinking of, and to much is poisonous. It's medical use is mostly for cancer. (legality?)

TedJ look it up on the internet, it will give you all the instructions, then all yous need is the grafting tools

dunno bouts peach trees, but apricot trees hafta be planted in 2's, they inter breed and produce the fruits. the peaches we get here are all still rock hard.

Ted, easy as can be. All you need is pocket knife, and electrical tape. I had 12 good trees growing. They were doingbfine in our yard until I gave some away and the transplanting got them. I now have 6 or 8 left. I cant remember exactly right now.

Anyway order the type of rootstock you want. Full, semi dwarf, dwarf and thenin fall take some yearling branches off your tree and put them in a Ziploc baggy in the fridge over winter. Fools them into thinking its dormancy season. Your rootstock should arrive when its planting bseason. The day you get the rootstock (should be Feb or March) cut a V on the rootstock stem and an inverted V on the yearling branch. You want the bark areas to line up as best as possible so that it can easily move sugars up the growing part of the tree. Take the electric tape and tape it once or twice. Later in the season aug/September area go back and cut a vertical slit with a razor in the tape so the tree can expand but the tape still holds it.

I was told they ship the best ones the farthest,cause after shipping a long ways they sure want them to sell. My Wonderful nor I ever got started on the farmers market thing,an with the "fresh and local" business they want a lot more than the grocery store anymore.
